Further Information

Student drawingAn emphasis on research and research training is a defining characteristic of UWA. The University is one of Australia's leading research-intensive universities and the premier research institution in Western Australia.

Research expertise in the Faculty covers a wide range of subjects related to the theory, history and practice.

Research courses

Postgraduate research courses can be undertaken by:

  • thesis
  • a combination of thesis and practice-based research
  • design with a short written component.

All postgraduate research degrees at UWA are managed by the Graduate Research School but future students can contact the Faculty for advice and assistance.

Partnerships

The Faculty has undertaken a number of exciting research projects in partnership with business and government. One of these is the Urban Design Centre of Western Australia, which provides students with opportunities to work directly with communities and practising professionals on significant design and research projects.

We have also partnered with the Forest Products Commission in the establishment and development of the Advanced Timber Concept Research Centre. The Centre carries out scientific and design-led research in native and plantation timber species, and aims to provide:

  • a more rapid product research and development cycle
  • more extensive and sustainable cross-sector collaboration and consultation
  • more effective value adding to the timber and forestry industry sector.

Please contact the Faculty with any proposals for future joint ventures.
