Rembrandt's Anatomy Lessons

This thesis examines Rembrandt's engagement with the anatomical culture of seventeenth-century Holland and its impact on his art, particularly his paintings of bodily mortality

Why my research is important

It deepens our understanding of the life and art of Rembrandt van Rijn, and in a more general context, demonstrates the strong and fruitful relations between art and anatomy in early modern Europe
