Summer Studios 2010


The Faculty is pleased to be able to offer the following summer studio opportunities in January and February 2010.

MILAN OVERSEAS STUDIO

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a six week intensive architectural design studio in Milan, Italy.

The studio will be hosted by the Politecnico di Milano via Durando, Bovisa. ALVA students will be integrated into a forth year design and technology unit taught by Prof. Emilio Battisti and work alongside Italian students on the same project. The studio will undertake the study of an urban renewal in the centre of Milan and will initially call for the development of an urban design strategy (master plan). This will be followed by the expansion of the master plan into an architectural proposal for the whole part of the scheme that will require detailed spatial investigation, modelling and architectural presentations at various scales. This studio can only be taken as ARCT3301, ARCT4401, ARCT4403 or either ARCT5500 or 5501.

Cost: Approx. $9,000 (including airfares, accommodation, daily living allowance, studio costs and personal expenses).

INDIA OVERSEAS STUDIO

This is an similarly exciting opportunity to undertake a 6 week intensive architectural design studio in Chennai, India.

The studio will be hosted by the Anna University, School of Architecture in Chennai. ALVA students will work alongside Indian and Sri Lankan students on the same project with the coordination and support of ALVA staff member, Romesh Goonewardene. This studio can only be taken as ARCT3301, ARCT4401, ARCT4403 or either ARCT5500 or 5501.

Cost: Approx: $6,500 (including airfares, accommodation, daily living allowance, studio costs and personal expenses). An alternative
programme involving a three week architectural study tour of Northern India accompanied by Indian staff and students can also be
offered at a marginal extra cost depending on student interest.
Co-ordinator: Romesh Goonewardene
When: Monday 4th January to Friday 12th 2010 February (to be confirmed). The tour of Northern India commences in December 2009.

PERTH METROPOLITAN STUDIO

Students in Levels 3 to 5 of Environmental Design/Architecture can undertake a studio over the summer semester in Perth.

The project is still to be determined and there will be limited places in this studio.

Students should note that this studio can only be taken as: ARCT3301, ARCT4401, ARCT4403 or either of ARCT5500 or 5501

Students will work in the ALVA building for 6 weeks, 18 hours per week.
